Oil dipstick calibration
Gentlemen,
During the last two short drives in "Doc" my '51 Hornet Club Coupe, while cornering, I noticed the oil light briefly illuminating. Yesterday I went to check the oil and found it to be well above the add level, but then I got to looking at the dipstick, and starting thinking that the 'stop' ferrule on the stick may have slipped up to the very top of the stick, giving an erroneous level. I'm thinking that stop should be positioned as shown in the attached pictured, but instead it had slipped a good 3/4 inch upward, which represents about 2 qts of oil.
Can anyone confirm that the round stop should be positioned just above the friction area, as I've positioned in this picture? If so, I'll get out the old TIG welder and tack it for future readings.
