Up dates- Got the carb kit in. It now purrs like a kitten. Took off the rim's and drums for a look see and Yahoo!! brand new brakes and turned drums all around ( truck sat in a museum for years). King pins and steering are excellent.

Questions- how do you turn the wippers on?
- how do I ID the year of my strait 8 engine?
- What are my opptions for turn signal indicators? ( have single lever colum)
- out side door handles. Mine has only the one screw, threw the door post, holding it on. Did some one get lazy and
cut off the tab with the screw behind the door trim, or, are truck handles differant than cars?
_ what is the little white button or knob under the dash, left of the steering colum?

Thanks for looking.

Paul

  • The wipers are controlled by the small wing shaped knob up by the ash tray on top of dash.
THE id # The 8 is on the top right corner of engine on a flat surface of block .
The truck could have factory type turn signal control mounted just like the car on the coloumn. but you may need to cut slot for it. And there are no parking lights or dual rear lights so that needs to be addessed.
Not sure what you mean about door handle ,one screw mounts them.
The little white button you are seeing is probably for dimming dash lights.

The engine number should be, if original engine, same as serial number on the right front door post. If you can post the number (if not the same) we can probably give you the year from our files.

Brain short (got cataracts and can't see all that well lately) - he did say the truck has an 8!!! Sorry 'bout that. But if the 8 came out of a 1946 or later car it's possible we can tell him the year from our production list.

  • Thank you all. I will get my numbers together and report back. There is going to be issues with the cab serial number tag as It was made to match the title. I have looked for the frame number below the carb but haven't seen it yet.
There is a nob above the ashtray, but it looks like a thimble and is crumbly. I was afraid to turn it for fear of having fall to bits.
My mannuel says to remove horizontal door trim and remove hidden screw on handle, behind the trim. Revome second screw on door post. There is a "claimed"46 handle on ebay and it shows the second screw. Mine only has one screw and Rodger says thats correct.??

who is going to sell me the wipper switch and a factory turn signal???

  • No ,I'm sorry there is that hidden screw on the handle. #-o
As far as the knob on the wipers I found them on ebay same as some GM cars used same era. Fit perfectly on shaft sort of a press fit so be carefull.
