WTB - nice running 262 or 308 - PNW

Hi all. I'm new here, signed up because of all the Hudson traffic. I've got the stepdown jones. I have found a car i really like, a 53 Wasp 4 door. But it has a thrown rod. I should probably keep looking, but there is something about this particular car that does it all for me.

Finding and rebuilding a block will probably be expensive, and time consuming. Does anyone have a good running 6 cyl for this car? It's got the hydramatic. I know very little about these cars but it seems a 3 spd engine won't work? Why is that?

Alternately, any good Hudson engine builders in the PNW? Any leads?

Or maybe I should wait and drive the 800 miles to San Mateo?

Thanks
Scott

53 stepdowns ..all engines are interchangeable. Can't use the early six from 48-50 on a HD car, but since this car is a stick. You can use any 48-54 engine (Not Jet). That gives you a broad choice.
I think there are more engines surviving, than cars, so you shouldn't have any trouble. Good luck...

I like the comfort of having a rebuilt engine in a car. They are not that complicated and there are a number of good shops out there that can do the engine. You might check with Jason down in Fontana. He has Vintage Coach, a full service Hudson dealership, there and you can reach him at 909 823-9168. He could give you an idea of what costs are involved and he is one of the best engine men on the west coast. You are lucky to have him there. There are a lot of cars out there right now, so if you can wait you might score a good deal at the National. But, I always say, if you find a car you like--that is the one you should buy. Remember, we like pictures......

Send me an email at mmittge at compprime dot com (substitute @ and . where indicated)- I'll put you in touch with a guy in Shelton, WA who has a bunch of Hudson engines, and can rebuild them, too. Don't want to advertise his info on the internet, for privacy concerns.
