1954 Hudson Clock

OK, I stopped before I broke something (not my style). I tore the dash gage cluster out because I am rewiring the car. I took the gages out because the dash needs a coat of paint. Got everything out with the exception of the wind up dial that goes through the glass. How do I take that out so I can clean and refresh the gages?

Hi Brownie To remove the knob on the 54 clock. Pull out on knob and gently grab shaft below threads with needle nose pliers and with other hand turn knob in a counter clockwise direction. Shaft is threaded. But be careful. What color is your dash going to be. Ours is dark brown. Ray0

Ray is correct. Use a needle nose vice grip.0

Red, just like in the advertisement. I'll post a few photos as things progress. OK, early morning, refreshed from a nights sleep, I go after that clock stem. I get the pliers where they need to be and apply a little pressure. Snap, the glass breaks right where the stem goes through the glass. Problem solved. By the way, after the glass snapped the stem cap twisted right off. Well, no loss, all is in good shape and I get new glass for my gage cluster. Thanks for the help... It is hard when a bull is in the china closet?0

Brownie,
Did you know that the 54's came with an option of a wind up or an electric clock. I don't know if previous years offered that.

Sure did John. I prefer windups and have one on my 51 Hornet.0

I was looking at my clock and there is not an electrical connection... Must be a windup. Know anyone who repairs them? Here are the photos that I offered... Here the car is pushed off into the corner. Looks sad? I put some of that stuff on the top and trunk to kill rust. Made it shine and look like the car was painted with a brush. It seems to sand with little effort? The replacement glass is ordered and was only $25.0

Look at that shine on the hubcap!0

I took the clock to my clock man (another passion I have is old clocks--I need fewer collections of stuff.) The clock was in good shape and needed a good cleaning and adjustment of a few parts. It is back in the dash and works great! My clock man tells me that he charges $75.00 to do a clean and adjust on a clock. Our clocks are not all that standard so if some parts are broken or worn out he tells me that he might or might not be able to find replacement parts. However, he is more than willing to work on our clocks so if anyone wants more information send me an email. I am in the book.
