Is it possible to remove stepdown steering collum tube and shifter to install onto 47 steering box. Just wondering if it has been done by anyone for a 308 with double lever trans installation into 47 vehicle. I'm considering this option for one of my 47 Hudson PUs. Or will the stepdown gear box bolt into 47 ?

LEE THE WAY TO INSTALL A LATER MODEL OVERDRIVE IS TO TAKE THE 46/7 BELL HOUSING AND INSTALL IT ON A SINGLE LEAVER OD TRANS I'VE NEVER HEARD OF ANY ONE GOING TO THE DUBBLE LEAVER TRANS THAT TRANS HAS A DIFFERENT BELL HOUSING THAT THE TRANS BOLTS TO AFTER YOU HAVE YOUR CLUTH, PREASURE PLATE INSTALLED THEN INSTALL THE BELL HOUSING THEN THE TRANS I DON'T KNOW IFYOU WOULD BE ABLE TO MATE UP THE TRANS AND THE ENGINE I THINK THE STEERING COLLOM IS NOT YOUR BIGGEST WORRY INLESS YOU WENT TO THE LATER 232,262,308 ENGINE THEN THE BELL HOUSING WOULD BOLT UP AND THE INSTALL THE NEWER STEERING COLLOM

Thanks Roger. Glad to know its possible.

Thanks Paul for the lesson. I didn't know how it was put together. I'm sorry I didn't explain properly. I have the 308 engine/double lever overdrive trans out of the 54 Hornet. I was wondering if the stepdown shift collum would fit the 47 gear box to operate the linkage to trans. I would still need get a shift arm that is missing as well as the linkage to trans & OD.

Maybe I should just use the 55 engine/single lever overdrive trans combo I also have to make installation easier.

I have seen the later double lever columns in a 46/47 pick-up, but I didn't install it.
I can tell you it's a lot of fabrication to get the two Rods to the trans right.
That was my part of the project. I'm not sure if the whole gear box was changed, I suspect it was. Fred Lorenz owns the truck now , he's in the roster.
