Drag racing at Bonneville Raceway

Back in the 60's about ten miles west of Salt Lake City was the Bonneville Raceway, not to be mistaken for the Bonneville Salt Flats that are actually two hours west of Salt Lake. We would go out and do the drag thing mostly with a "run what you brung" thing. But, it was fun. I spent most of the morning working on pulling the dash on the 54 to change color and to get ready for the new wire harness. I took a break to so some painting for my wife and before clean-up I decided to play a bit. Here you see a reproduction Hornet racing sign and a reproduction Beeline Racing Gas sign and with a small brush a reproduction of how Bonneville classed their cars. S/A was stock and it was painted on with a brush when you paid your money, after the race the officials would go through the lot and put your position on the end. That was when you would go to the timer and get your official slip. Since this car raced in California I put the race track name on there just for fun... There was no rust in the trunk (that sounds suggestive? ) So I put down some Por 15--you can see all the way to the dash. Interior was painted white (original car color) so it will go back white. The trunk lid is Lipstick Red.

I remember those days... You were lucky to have a Drag Strip nearby... We used the streets until residents called the Police.... Eventually a Drag Strip opened... I like the Patina and wish solid bodies like your '54 could be found on the East Coast....
    Ps: Isky looks good too....

1/8 mile strip inside a NASCAR roundy-round track. The place Shirley Muldowney began her career. Fond memories of FONDA Drag Strip. '39 Willys Coupe with FI 283 and a 56 210 Belair followed by a 56 Bread wagon running a 272 dual quad stock Chevy in L/S. Later came SWB Hudsons with Hornet Motors still in L/S until the AHRA banded us from running them. Oh to be so young and foolish once again!
