I picked up a set last month at Checker Auto (woops, they changed their name to O'Reilly--sold out or something?) Got a set for the front and for the back for my 1954. They had five sets in inventory (all out of state) but, I thought about buying them all.0

I tried to find them on oreillyauto.com, but there is no listing for Hudson. Brownie, what is the part numbers? If I know the p/n's, maybe I can go to the counter at one of their stores and order them.
Thanks, Michael0 -
What's the matter with the Bendix R55? Rockauto lists them. Might have to loosen the nut on the anchor and adjust it per Walt Mordenti.0

The industry number was 18 ,for relined shoes. Different manufactures used different
variants , EG. B18, or R 18 .
Used to find them at swap meets , usually just had 18 on the box end.
NAPA may be able to send out your cores for reline?0 -
Michael, you have to go up to the counter and grab an old fart that has been with them for more than a year or two and have them look up Hudson in their old books. I cannot tell you how many times young counter folks have asked me "who built Hudson?" Anyway, they seem to always find my car (s) after a visit or two and then find the stuff on their computer.0

I don't know too much about StepDowns but I understand that there is a brake shoe that is supposed to fit Ford, that interchanges. Except it doesn't. Everything is the same except that the notch for the top pin is located incorrectly to fit the Hudson, and the result is that the shoes are pushed too far out and the drum won't even go on.
With luck, someone who knows will be able to elaborate on this!0 -
Brownie, you are soooooo right about that. I have had my share of frustrations in the past with counter people who believe that if it is not on their computer - then it doesn't exist.
I'll find that old fart and get his help.
Thanks, Michael0 -
Walt Mordenti did an article in the WTN a couple of years ago about moving the top pin on the backing plate, to use these so called Hudson front brake shoes. He had a drawing showing the difference in the top notch of the Brake shoes and the correct Hudson front brake shoes. And why you had to move the pin to get these to line up correctly. I also bought Two sets for the front of my Hudson but when I went to change them I saw the notch was incorrect. I then had my old ones relined.0

You can use those "Ford" shoes if you grind a little out of the notch .Then find someone with an old "Cam Grinding Machine" for brake shoes. And re-arch the shoes to match your drum diameter.
