Cigar Lighter
The cigar lighter on my '53 Super Wasp will not stay put (and then pop out) when I push it into the socket to heat it up. If I put pressure against the lighter to hold it in place, it will come out glowing, but this risks burning up the heating coil part of the lighter. I also tried another Hudson lighter with the same results. Any idea what's at fault here? I don't smoke (never did), but I still would like to have a working lighter as it's an original accessory of the car.

Just stick the cigar in the hole and see if it lights?0

The problem is inside the socket. There is a spring steel clip that hold the lighter against the bottom of the socket until the temp come up. The clip is probably broken or burned off. You will need to replace the socket in the dash.

Thanks, Chuck, for the suggestion that the lighter socket (female end) is the culprit. I'll inspect the lighter socket on my Super Wasp later today.
