Some people like to dream. Most car auctions are filled with speculators who never drive the cars, just move them from auction to auction for resale. I feel thses two Hudson Pacemakers on e bay are overpriced, but a person can spend their money as they want.0
-
I DON'T KNOW WHAT WORLD YOUR LIVING IN BUT TO RESTORE A HUDSON STEPDOWN CONVERTIBLE IS IS NOT A CHEAP DEAL I DID ALL MY OWN WORK AND HAVE MORE THAN 1/2 OF WHAT THERE ASKING FOR THE 51 PACEMAKER CV AND I DID NOT CHARGE MY SELF FOR TIME AND LABOR AND THEY HAVE A PLACE YOU OFFER ON THE CAR I DON'T THINK IT OUT OF LINE AT ALL
YOU COULD NOT BY HUDSON PACEMAKER CV THAT CHEAP!!0 -
I agree with paul. a lot of these Hudson guys still think its 1968 its not.we should be thankful someone saved it,spent money on it and took care of it.0
-
Walt here. I spent 5 years doing my 53 Hornet, and when I got up to $25,000 keeping track of money spent, I stopped keeping track. Add 5 years labor and you can have an idea on cost of total project. But I sure am getting my moneys worth out of my 53. I am still getting offers to sell and not cheap money.0
-
What I find amazing about the convertible listed is that it is Original! I have at least $30,000 and between 6000 and 8000 hours restoring my convertible and it still isn't finished. I will admit that I am quite slow at whatever I do..LOL. I hope I never have to sell my car but if I did I would want at least that much for it.0
-
Yeah it's not 1968 but it is still a recession. Most hobbyists never figure out by typical mechanics hourly rate what restoring a car actually costs em. I suspect what the individual hobbyists time is worth varies too. But the prices speculators pay are usually artificially inflated. That's all based on demand. Some people don't care what it's worth or what it costs, they just want one and have the means. A lot of HET folks bought them when no one wanted one.... did a little work, sold it to the next HET member who did a little work, then sold it...so on and so forth until they were mostly all restored and sold to someone who does no work at all.0
-
I wasn't questioning the amount of time and labor or the cost of a restoration project as much as I was thinking that the asking price was not very realistic....I'm sure that it would be very easy
to invest at least 60K in the restoration of a Hudson, but it better be a labor of love because there is a very limited market for a 60K Hudson..
Will be interesting to watch on E bay to see if there are any bids on the Pacemaker CV....
Also when I posted the price on the other pacemaker car there was a price of $15K...it has since been corrected and it's now in the $7K range

When I started my 36 English Hudson I decided to do as much as I could myself. When I thought it important that I sell the car, I expected some nice offers. Did not happen. I got insults and a few low ball offers. Now, I simply enjoy driving the car knowing that it is not worth any money. My wife always tells me that they are only worth what someone is willing to pay. Good thing I enjoy building them, because I can not see where anyone is making any money building and selling Hudson's.0

DOC I LIKE WHAT YOUR SAYING WHEN WE SHOW UP WITH 2 OR 3 STEP/DOWN CONVERTIBLES WE STEAL THE CROUD AWAY FROM ALL THE NEW JUNK IT PUTS A SMILE ON MY FACE AND THE DOC HUDSON COMENTS FROM THE KIDS IS ALSO GREAT KEEP SHOWING THOSE HUDSONS0

We had a good showing of Hudson products at our local city show yesterday. When I pulled in and parked, within about a half hour there were six (all new) Mustangs and a 4 door Dodge parked around me and my 28 Essex Roadster Pick up. What has happened to the old cars? But, it was good to see a 49 Hudson Coupe, 47 Hudson Pickup, 37 Terraplane pick up and a fresh 53 Hudson Coupe that was a custom...

When we have taken our 48 Commodore out to local shows it surprises me at how many people ask who made the Hudson.
Many people comment on how nice the design is and love how Hudson did such a nice job on the dash and interior.
Sometimes when we leave a cruise the car is so quite that people will walk out in front of us and are surprised I am right there. lol0 -
I would like to have that '51 Pacemaker Brougham. Seven grand sounds like a fair price to me. I don't have that kind of extra money. But it looks like a good deal. IMO0
-
What's wrong with "Red"? I kind of like it on my car!0
-
IN THE CAR BUSNESS JERRY THAT IS KNOWN AS RESALE RED !!!!0
-
With a name like "Lipstic" I think Hudson knew what they were doing. My 54 is on the way to look just like Jerry's--OK corrected.... by the way, was it really named after MM's lipstick? If not, that is the story I am going to tell....0
-
Actually Brownie, Hudson called it "Lipstic" No mention was made of "Red" in the sales bulletins when the new colors were announced.0
-
I still like the car, I'm cool with the red/lipstick. But I have to admit, I've wanted a '51 Pacemaker Brougham for a while. So I'm biased.
I agree with "DocHubler", I'm not sweating the dent in the roof either. I would of popped that out before it was put up for sale. ...If it were me.0 -
Looked at it again. Maybe that dent won't just pop out. It's pretty sharp and deep. But still, not the end of the world, just a little more messing with to get it right. I still wouldn't be that concerned.0

Once a few years ago, I took my '49 Super sedan to a car show and they had me park next to a "55 Chevy trailer Queen" Nice car, sure, red over white convertible, the owner had all kinds of the origional dealer ads and promotional materials on dispaly also. Quess what car people looked at and did ask questions about. It was not the Chevy. My '49 Hudson was just a driver and not transported in an enclsed trailer.0

On one of our cross country trips I was passing through Naugatuck, CT. and saw a car meeting, Margaret said drive in and lets look it over, as we were only 15 miles from our destination, Waterbury, CT. It was a boy scout meeting for all old cars. We parked, got out our chairs and the crowd came around. The boy scouts were going to pick out the car they liked most. Guess what, they called the Hudson owner, me, to the stand and gave me the trophy. I can show any one the Boy Scout Naugatuck Trophy. And there were a lot of those so called cars as stated above. Walt Mordenti.0

I was between two very nice Chevelles at one meet- in fact, one won Best in Show. My Hudson got the lions share of attention, of course. One of the Chevelle guys came over as everyone was packing up to leave, smiled and said "Note to self- don't park by the Hudson."
BTW, Paul, that color applied to a Corvette is known as "Hello Officer Red".0 -
There are two things that drive old car prices - dreams and reality. You can dream about what you want to sell for or buy - reality is what you wind up with.

Trying to find a good photo of the 52 and this is what happens when you loose all your files? The top of this 4/door was pushed down almost to the seats. A little work and it was fine. I used black paint just to show off the body work. The brougham we are talking about would be easy to repair....0
-
GUY, you have a coupe with all the "Home Made Extras". On your spare time, get it done.
VicTor Z0 -
Ha! I know Victor, your right. ">
I'm trying not to collect any more cars, lack of money is making me stay under control.0 -
CHECKED E BAY TODAY FOR HUDSONS AND WAS SUPRISED...THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO ACTIVITY AT ALL EVEN THO THERE ARE A VARIETY OF CARS OFFERED FOR SALE.
COULD IT BE THAT THE MINIMUM BIDS AND RESERVE PRICES HAVE FINALLY REACHED THE POINT WHERE THERE IS NO LONGER ANY INTEREST...HMMMMM ?

Not likely. It's just a lull. Unemployment is skyrocketing. Excess income is non-existent for a lot of folks. Eventually, it will come back around, always does. It's just a matter of whether or not one is able to weather the storm.0
-
Don't worry - those few with bucks (speculators) will still be paying unbelievable prices at auctions so they can flip the car 6 or 8 weeks later for even higher prices. This usually happens in an economy in a downturn. Commodities are seen as good investments, while stocks aren't. So those who would love to own somethng are frozn out of the market.
As Russell says it's just a lull. They vill be baack.
