Thermostat Housing

Mine looks to be "ok"

The head surface looks good..took a flat file to it.

The Thermostat Housing mating surface has some pitting, but think it will work for now.

The problem(s) I'm seeing is 1) the recess where the thermostat sits..its pretty pitted, I'm going to try and clean it up with a dremel for now and 2) Pitting from the inside out on the housing. I glass beaded the inside and then used a high-powered light to look for holes...didn't see any..but its just a matter of time as the pitting is from the inside out.

So, does anyone make a repop of the thermostat housing and.or is it even possible to find an NOS housing thats in nice shape?

I got a nice one for my 39 from Al Saffrahn out in Arizona.
  • I've got some NOS housings from the late thirties and some decent used ones from the stepdown era. Be careful when buying another housing. Look for the brazing that was done around the "ears" when someone tightened the housing down too tightly and had to repair one.
