Trip to Walmart

I drove the Commodore to Walmart and parked at the end of the parking lot in an attempt to protect the new paint job. When I came out, a guy had parked his truck near the old girl, but only because he wanted to take a picture of it. He complimented me on the beauty of the car and when I thanked him, he said, "No, thank you for all you've done to preserve this classic." I have a different perspective on Walmart customers now.

DON'T GET CARRIED HE WASN'T A CUSTOMER..HE SAW YOUR CAR FROM THE STREET AND PULLED IN TO GET A COUPLE PICTURES THEN HE WAS ON HIS WAY TO TARGET...LOL
  • This reminds me of when my wife and I were returning from the 1980 National in Baltimore. Coming up through New Jersey in pouring rain we pulled into a large roadside rest area for Joan to have a pit stop. She insisted I park way down at the end of the large lot so no one would be near our car. She walked off in the rain and as I sat there, the car shook and there was a loud clunk. I jumped out to find a woman had taken the trouble to pull down where we were and parked next to the Pacemaker, threw open her door and made a big chip in the new paint job on our car. When I screamingly told her what she had done, she asked, " Oh, did I do that?". The stupidity of that woman truly astounded me. Still does.

Ev Hudson, late of the New England Chapter, used to say his Hudsons were car magnets. If he went to a mall and parked way out in the boonies with no cars around when he got back there would be cars all around his Hudson. One thing that does help a bit is to park right over the parking space lines.

Driving a pick up to Walmart says he is a Walmart customer, If he was missing his front teeth also definitely a Walmart customer.

As mean as you folks are I hate to see what you say about McDonalds. I take a different car each day and have breakfast with the ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) club. I always get some interesting comments. I have even had folks stop in and tell me about their Hudson's. Cars close to my home that I did not know about (i.e. a Yellow Hollywood that is all original, and very nice, with 40,000 miles on it. It is totally loaded with all the goodies and they all work). Anyway, there are many nice places you can drive your Hudson and draw a crowd.

You got the idea Brownie. We cannot attract people to the H-E-T club if we continue to hide the cars in garages and backyard meets.
I recently attended the Central Regional meet. One evening I was looking around at all the people sitting around and when I went in the lobby there were more people - and every one of them were over 60, if not a bit older. Out of 96 attendees at least 80% were age 65 or older. Probably 15%, maybe 20% (but that's pushing it) were under 55.
Just as a curiosity the other day I dug out a bunch of WTN's and was looking thru the various local meet photos - all to many of them looked like gatherings at the old folks home. This is very serious business, folks. We have to attract younger people - the young ones now in the club ain't gonna produce enough young 'uns to keep the Hudson name alive. If something isn't done I predict this club will be dead within 20 years, if not sooner. Think about it.
And while you're thinking about it come up with someway to keep contributions to the online library going - and somebody to take the project to the next level. I ain't gonna be around much longer. The ideal solution would be to have the club librarian do it - but John is most definitely NOT computer literate.

The exact reason we allow Rambler AMC vehicles into our club, the younger generation love muscle cars etc. Check out of Facebook page and see how many Rambler AMC cars were on show last Sunday at Independents display day. Hudson AMC Car Club of Australia Inc.

Alex, only the good die young, you'll be around forever.LOL
  • It could be as simple as taking one of your cars to a few local brand x car shows each year. Just to get some exposure to new eyes . And take along some club info in your trunk like old WTN's and application form's,
