Problem closing the hood
I am having a problem closing the hood on my 1940. When I lower the hood into place it does not lay directly on the cowl it sticks up about an inch and a half. When I took a light and peeked under the edge I see that on the passenger side the lower arm of the U shaped bracket the one that rotates and grabs onto the bracket on the hood; is inside the hood bracket. The one on the drivers side is sitting on top of the hood bracket. Which one is correct?
I had this closing problem before and I thought I had fixed it. Last year with the hood lowered I loosened the bolts on the frame where the hood attaches. I moved and pushed on the hood until it was in the correct location I then re-tightened the bolts and when I would open or close the hood it went right into place.
The only change is that over the winter I was doing some engine work so I left the hood open especially since I had the battery tender on. I have now completed my work and I want to drive, drive, drive my Hudson. Problem is when I went to close the hood I had the same closing problem all over again. I can't believe that leaving the hood open in the upright position for several months would cause this to happen.
Can anyone tell me how those brackets should mesh when I close the hood. If any of you have any suggestions about what might be causing this annoying problem please let me know.
All the best,

Is one of the U shape brackets look bent maybe ?0

Charles4d,
I don't see anything that looks bent, but I will take another look at the U shaped brackets to make sure they are not bent. I was thinking maybe the hood is sitting at an angle but when it is closed it looks perfect. If it was sitting at an angle that would mean the hinge brackets were bent; and I don't think so.
I don't now what it is but it is really driving me crazy. I am going to loosen all the hinge brackets one more time and get the hood adjusted properly and then I will tighten the nuts and bolts again and this time I will be sure they are snugged up properly.
Thanks for getting back to me.
