Came across this piece at the flea market today. I believe it to be an enameled radiator plaque for a defunct automobile manufacturer I have no knowledge of. I believe it to read L W F (the W being predominant, perhaps the first part of the name). Thoughts?

Did some digging, didn't come up with anything. All of the usual 'W'-auto manufacturers came up empty, assuming the 'W' is a surname.

Another guess is that the three letters are three surnames of the principals in a company.

Might not even be a car logo.

    Might be "Long-Winded-Female" . . . but maybe not.

    Cool, anyway.

Hey now RL . . . I'm pretty confident it is not a bicycle head badge as it is a bit too large, heavy and is basically flat as opposed to rounded to accommodate the shape of the frame. Perhaps our next contestant will solve the mystery.

If it's not to big it could be a running board step-plate, maybe.

Lanchester-Wills-Ferrari, an ill considered, short lived and now long forgotten international car manufacturing conglomerate from the mid 1920s.

So long forgotten that they may never have existed!! :-)
  • According to Wikipedia, Wills Sainte Claire was an automobile brand manufactured by the C. H. Wills and Company, in Marysville, Michigan, from 1921 to 1927 and Lanchester Motor Company Limited was a car manufacturer located until early 1931 at Armourer Mills, Montgomery Street, Sparkbrook, Birmingham, and afterwards at Sandy Lane, Coventry England. Lanchester was purchased by the BSA Group at the end of 1930. And Ferrari, well it's Ferrari...seems unlikely...
  • More than likely European (if a car badge at all).
