Front coil spring length

One should keep in mind that the driver side spring is longer than the one on the passenger side. I am not sure about a 54 but 48-53 springs are not the same from side to side. Hope this helps. Hud0

The free height will not be the same as the load height. The load height is the height when the spring is installed on your fully assembled Hudson. The difference is due to 1) spring deflection rating, 2) spring load rating, and 3) spring fatigue.
I have a matrix that I put together showing the specs for all Hudson stepdown springs. there are eight different part numbers. When I get home this evening, I will post the matrix.
Also, the driver side spring is not necessarily longer than the passenger side. It depends on which p/n's the factory used.0 -
As promised, I am attaching the stepdown spring application matrix that I put together awhile back. As you can see by the blank spaces, it is not complete. And it may not be completely accurate. Looking up and deciphering the info on some of the p/n's was confusing (but what the heck, I confuse easily...). There were a couple of part numbers that a current spring manufacturer mentioned, but I could not find them in any of the Hudson books, so I did not list them in the matrix. Also, some of the info in the various Hudson books was a little contradictory, as well. So, if anyone can add or correct my information, I would welcome the input.
Hope this helps, Duncan,

Thanks Michael I have an extra set of front coils from a 54 4 dr. sedan I will measure and see what length they are. They might fit our 54 Hornet hollywood. Ray0
