I see that my upper A-arms are sitting on the rubber bumpers. I take it I need new springs. Who do you guys recommend I purchase these from? I also understand that there are standard duty and heavy duty....I just want the standard duty for my 52 Hornet right? Thanks in advance!! Bill

  • Thanks Paul. I talked with Walt at San Mateo and he made it sound like I could find companies that make springs just for the stepdowns. Hoping I could find springs that fit right in. Bill
  • I found an old discussion where Detroit Spring has them for stepdowns. Might have found my answer....hope they didn't file bankruptcy:-O Bill
  • Kanter lists 1940-57 coil springs at $220.00 a pair in their Fall/Winter 2012-13 catalog. They also list Hudson leaf springs. Dan
  • Thanks Dan...I will check it out.
  • Randy Maas sells front springs for Hudsons plus new rear leaf springs. Get them from a Hudson guy who knows what you need. Good prices too.

  • Bowtie; Just ordered front coils from ,ESPo Springs in Danville ,Pa. # 1-800-903-9019 or 570-672-9413. They cost me 138.78 ,this includes the Freight. They were the best price I could find. I have not installed them yet so I can not attest to how well they will work out for me?
  • I wasn't aware of Randy Maas selling coil and leaf springs for Hudsons. That being the case, I'd check them out first before Kanter.

  • I wasn't aware of that too. Definitely will do business with Hudson boys first!! Thanks to everyone for your input. Again the Hudson family is there when you need them! Bill

Coil Spring Specialties in Kansas make good ones, along with the pads, and are cheaper than Kanter, etc. Very nice folks to deal with.

How did the new springs work out?

  • To 402 bowtie, You said your UPPER a arms are against the rubber bumpers. do you have the engine out of the car?
  • The engine and tranny are in..... the front clip is off. The radiator is on but empty. Front bumper is off. I'm wondering if that will be enough weight to get the upper A arms off of the rubber bumpers. I placed 300 pounds of those sand bags that you can buy a Home Depot and that was enough to get the arms off of the rubber bumpers. I still wonder if I have weak springs.
  • You really cant tell where you stand without the car ready to run..If the springs are weak , the frame should be down near the BOTTOM rubber bumpers. the car will also sit low in front.

  • Thanks cargray. We will get to that point and check it out.
