Carolina Crankup - September 27-28, 2013
For 2013, the Crank-up will continue the move from Greenville, SC to Newberry, SC. On Friday (27st), 6 PM dinner reservations have been made at The Flying Pie (1506 Main St.) There are possible offerings at The Newberry Opera House but the fall schedule will not be available until late summer. The Dixie Chapter is invited to a car cruise-in at the local Sonic (1624 Wilson Rd, US Hwy 76) from 5-8. We are actually co-sponsoring this year.
Saturday will kick off with a 12:30 PM luncheon ($8.00) at Newberry College Kaufman Building (easiest access is from exit 72 on I-26 between Columbia and Spartanburg). Hudsons will be displayed near the fountain (enter from College St.) from 10:00. Also scheduled is an afternoon visit to the Carter and Holmes Orchid greenhouses. Our tour has a charge of $5/ person.
Tickets for the Newberry College afternoon football game versus Mars Hill College are available for $16 each. Game starts at 6:30 and will provide a wonderful experience of small college football in a beautiful venue for our members and spouses.
Supper is scheduled for The Flying Pie (1506 Main St), just up the street from the Hampton Inn which is the host hotel (address 1200 Nance St. at the corner of Main and Nance). The private room has been reserved for us from 4-9 so it can serve as an assembly point throughout the late afternoon and evening. They can serve both before and after the game. Downtown is best approached from exit 76 on I-26. Simply follow Main Street approximately 4 miles from the interstate to the downtown square where the Hampton and the Opera House are located.
Room reservations ($89/night) are made by calling the Newberry Hampton Inn at 803-276-6666 or going on the web. Some rooms (10) are blocked for Friday, September 27 in anticipation of some early-birds and more (20) are set aside for Saturday, September 28. Reservations need to be made before September 13th WHICH IS 2 WEEKS BEFORE THE 27th. Use the discount code HET.
At 10:30 Sunday we will assemble back at Newberry College (Kaufmann Hall) for another car display in the same location as Saturday. Lunch ($9.50) will follow in the cafeteria as will the business meeting. We can use the “Subway” room adjoining the cafeteria for dining and meeting.

John, re the Opera House, the latest from Charlie Hatch is that there's no program that weekend (so we can all go to the cruise-in!). You and Laurie going to be there?0
