Fellas, just got a set of Clifford shorty headers and while getting the engine back together is a ways off for me still, I would like to get my thoughts together. Anyone have pictures of how they routed their exhaust from the Shorty's?

This is a 54 Coupe with Clifford Shorties. Sorry I did not take a picture from the top side as I have long tube Cliffords and am going to have this system copied close. imageimageimageimageimageimage

Chris, a few questions about your setup- I see you have a single muffler with two inlets and two outlets- does it keep the two sides separate? How's the sound? I have long Clifford headers and two separate mufflers, and its a bit too quiet for my taste, so was thinking of going to smaller, straight-through mufflers. If you're going to have dual exhausts, it should sound like dual exhausts, IMHO.

As I understand it, the dynomax muffler has an internal cross over x design so the other x pipe may not be necessary. This car sounds good and I think they used 2 1/4 pipe.

I have the long tube headers, but here's the exhaust. Quite a bit of "massaging" to get it past the carrier bearing.

FYI, I ran Clifford headers on our 51 Hornet for 13 years. I first put on short glass packs and it had popping sound. I spoke with Smitty from Smitty mufflers and he told me that with a 6 cylinder engine, you have to use mufflers at least 24 inches long and suggested steel packed mufflers. I followed his advise and the sound was great with no popping and a more mellow sound.

    Thanks fellas!
What size are you typically running? The collector is 2 1/2”, do you drop it down to 2 or even smaller... I was looking up exhaust size guidelines and a mildly hopped up 308 would likely only need 1 5/8 for duals. Smaller would certainly help with routing. Thoughts?

This is a little bit of nastalgia. When I was a teenager I was helping my uncle work on a 1937
Chev. I looked at the muffler and told him you need a new muffler So he went to the parts house and bought a Thrush muffler. Long and red. I installed the muffler and sounded good.

IMO they sound best with no mufflers. Sound a lot like the old school buses
    with just straight pipes.
