Radiator reproduction

The radiator on my '49 Brougham bit the dust. I tried to replace the radiator a modern radiator from the seventies Dodge B200 van. The first one came in damaged. The second one came in and is all twisted. It is really a piece of junk made in Mexico. I talked with my son Matt who owns a hot rod shop and he did some research for me. He found a company Walker Radiator that with reproduce my radiator with modern materials to match the size and look of the original radiator. The price isn't cheap about $850.00 plus shipping. The radiator comes with a 10 year warranty.

The people at Walker told my son that if they could make more than one radiator at a time the price would drop depending on how many they would be making. Would any members of the forum be interested in joining me and purchasing a new radiator from Walker. I believe that 48 through 50 are the same. The top changes in 51 although I believe the rest of the radiator is the same.

If interested private message me and I will be able to determine how many others are interested and check to see how much the price will drop. Interested parties will then be able to contact Walker directly and make their own purchase arrangements.

I've spent thousands of dollars restoring my car to be as original as possible. I plan on keeping the car for the rest of my life and then my sons will get it so I feel it's worth the investment in a new reproduction radiator made for the car.

I bought a custom made Aluminum radiator from this place about nine years ago for just over $500, shipped. I couldn't be happier with the performance of it. I just returned from the San Mateo meet, where I drove through 100+ temps in Nevada, and the car never got over 170 degrees with the A/C on the whole way!

I'm sorry that you are up against the wall, time-wise, on this radiator. Because the concept of reproducing several of these (with the resulting economies of scale) is a good one, but logically one should have two or three months to spread the word, especially in the WTN (which probably has more readers than the web forums). Since you're only announcing this on the CC forum, you are limited to just the potential customers who need a radiator right now, and happen to tune into the forum.

But, your radiator's broken and you need a replacement! So, good luck, I hope several people will step forward immediately to help reduce the price.

Meanwhile, maybe some people with OTHER years of Hudson, requiring a different radiator, could start right now to look into having Walker reproduce radiators for their cars, and get out the word over the next few months, so that a large number of people could share the expense for that project.

Doesn't Lee Chamberlain at Brassworks repop stepdown radiators? Once more, he is a HET member.

    I like Chamberlain's price, LOL!

But seriously...what does he charge for these things? (Just curious.... I don't own a StepDown!)

Hudsonguy, how long did it take for them to make your radiator? I have developed a small leak at the tank and I have a wedding to do over the Labor Day weekend. I sent them an email over the weekend and hopefully will hear from them soon.

    Jason,

I don't remember exactly how long it took them, but it wasn't much more than a month or so as I recall. It might be faster now, because they should still have a drawing of it.

Man, it figures! Brassworks lists 35 Hudson but not 36....
