My previous post on this subject didn't get any responses, so I'll try again. How the heck do you do a search that will get results?

Edward, are you specifically asking about this forum? (That's what the title of your inquiry suggests.)
If so, simply type some search "keywords" into the blank rectangular window above START A NEW DISCUSSION, then hit the GO button next to the window.
For example, if you were trying to find an old discussion you remembered about running 6-volt starters on 12 volts, you might type "6-volts, starter, 12-volts" or some such string of words. (Using a hyphen "binds" the words together. That's so you don't get a list of discussions with the number "6" and "12" in them, which don't refer to voltage.)0 -
I agree, Rick, except that he seems to want to search the forum, not the internet. However, Google is so good (and the Classiccar search so bad) that maybe Google IS the best way to search our forum here. I have Googled a number of subjects in the past, only to find links right back to our own forum where that particular subject is being discussed.0

Note back to me ----
My name is Rachael - nice to meet you, and thanks for your email. The admin team passed over your email to me for a chat today. Sorry to hear that you have been having troubles with our website. Yes, I am aware that the search function on the classic car forum is more useless than tits on a bull, (though, i like your version of the saying better I think, I might start saying that one). It seems that when they moved it over management decided to "upgrade" to a new system. Sadly its just turned out to be a terrible system, hard to find anything and annoying in general as its caused a lot of work and trouble for everyone.
I've been trying to push things along more in the last month since I came on board to help out more with Classic Car, and this is another of the things we are endeavouring to fix in the long term - a better solution for the forum with more useful functions for the loyal followers we have participating in the community conversation.
This will take us a long time though, I am sad to say. We have just finished launching our Canada website, about to launch our Australia website, and about to commence the rebuild of our Ireland website - a lot on our plate! Needless to say, I can offer you a bit of a solution, a somewhat clumsy one, but it will help you find anything you like on the ClassicCar website.
Add this link as a bookmark > https://www.google.com/search?as_q=hudson&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&lr=&cr=&as_qdr=all&as_sitesearch=http://www.classiccar.com/&as_occt=any&safe=images&tbs=&as_filetype=&as_rights=
Click the link > In the search box (yes its a google page) at the top once you visit the link it will say: "hudson site:http://www.classiccar.com/". This is an advanced search that google allows people to use on individual websites.
Change the word "hudson" to be anything you would like to search for, and all the results below will show you whats written about in the forum containing this word or search term.
Sorry that I cannot offer you a better solution at this time, and if I can be of any more assistance just let me know. Hope this works for you in the meantime!
Kind Regards,
Rachael Mulliss0 -
I think we all need to realize that, essentially, the entire forum here at Classiccar is used almost exclusively by the Hudson people. (Click on "All Discussions" and you'll see that there are very few non-Hudson discussions anymore.) We are, to put it kindly, a small group, and probably do not bring that much business to Classiccar's advertisers. Therefore, one cannot fault Classiccar for deploying their precious resources to other areas of their operations that will give them some return on their investment. To put it mildly, the search function is lacking, and I'm afraid that we are probably going to have to live with this for some time.
Fortunately, the H-E-T Club now has its own separate forum, and since it's "ours" we have an interest in constantly improving it. Classiccar is run by a business and it has a right to make a profit. We're not contributing much to their coffers but they do give us a nice forum so for that I'm grateful.0 -
I appreciate the input and especially the method that "Rachael" described. I now use it and it works. Thanks to all.
