Hydramatic Starter

Hydra-matic starter making funny "rocks in a can" noises when keyed. Spins the engine though. Suspecting Bendix drive damaged. (Car timed @ TDC) Think I have a good core somewhere, but just moved and may not be able to find it. Anybody have anything ?? Bob Bennett 408-472-5403

You probably only need to replace the 'Starter Drive'. Most Local Rebuilders can get a replacement and its fairly easy to replace by driving out a pin behind the spring. 'Worst case' the ring gear may be getting bad teeth....

Trans & flywheel installed in car about 5K miles ago, and was in good shape then. Will start researching local rebuilders....Ken, let me message you about your core. Thanks guys, Bob

Yes it's 12V. The starter is supposed to be also, but I'll pull it this next week and give the whole thing a good "once-over"...
