Hydramatic Starter

Hydra-matic starter making funny "rocks in a can" noises when keyed. Spins the engine though. Suspecting Bendix drive damaged. (Car timed @ TDC) Think I have a good core somewhere, but just moved and may not be able to find it. Anybody have anything ?? Bob Bennett 408-472-5403

You probably only need to replace the 'Starter Drive'. Most Local Rebuilders can get a replacement and its fairly easy to replace by driving out a pin behind the spring. 'Worst case' the ring gear may be getting bad teeth....
  • Trans & flywheel installed in car about 5K miles ago, and was in good shape then. Will start researching local rebuilders....Ken, let me message you about your core. Thanks guys, Bob
  • Yes it's 12V. The starter is supposed to be also, but I'll pull it this next week and give the whole thing a good "once-over"...
