1929 Hudson Value

Hi guys

First post here. I'm looking at a 1929 Hudson and am trying to figure out what a decent price is to offer the owner. I've taken some pictures and we have been discussing the car over on the AACA forum, in the Hudson section. If any of you would care to go over and give your opinion, here or there, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Verd, the asking price looks high in my opinion as well. For that price something very close to a driver. a buddy of mine just bought a 29 4 door that is almost completely restored (within the last 5 years) for less than that. Good luck, they are great cars

I mostly agree with Jon. Saw the pics, nice car, still a long way to go. I'd offer 8, settle on 9 or so, but only if you truly want it. This is the kind of project that folks run out of gas then it gets sold off, which is just fine . . . usually for the buyer, not the seller. Projects just don't get a great return and 12K is a lot just to get someone else's headache.

Verd, if this is your first Hudson, I would find a car that could readily be a driver. Try it out, learn about the car (fall in love). Then, move on to a more difficult restoration. That particular '29 is a fine automobile, no doubt about it. Dual sidemounts, touring sedan. It was/is a nice model . . . just still a long way to go with many unknowns.

Of course, I'm biased! Hudson made the finest automobile to ever come out of Detroit. Once you get bit by the Hudson bug, there's no turning back!

Russell, you have two 1952 models - time to start looking for the rest of the years - '12, '22, '32 and '42. That would be if Missy didn't skin you alive after the first couple. LOL :D

A pre-war is next, Alex. I've been told that when you graduate to the 20's models or before is when you put your Hudson "Big Boy" pants on! First things first, I'll settle for a '42 or a '38, then work my way back some more, maybe.
  • The more I look into this the less appealing it becomes. I can see it taking up garage space for a long time and I don't need that. I thank you all for the advise and hope to be back here someday asking about a different Hudson. Thanks again.

This may prove to have been a very good decision. Better you should look elsewhere than buy something that will hang like a millstone around your neck. I really think you can find something in a '29 that you can drive and enjoy, even as you constantly improve it. Too many people drag these projects home, and the cars just end up sitting there for years, waiting for a future that never comes.
