I HAVE A 262 WITH A REBUILT CARTER 2 BBL CARB AND IT IDLES REAL NICE WHEN COLD, BUT WHEN THE CAR HEATS UP TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE THE IDLE IS ROUGH AND NO AMOUNT OF ADJUSTMENT TO EITHER THE IDLE SPEED AND OR THE MIXTURE WILL SMOOTH IT OUT.

ANY SUGGESTIONS OR THINGS I CAN LOOK FOR TO TROUBLE SHOOT IT?

THANKS

TOM

BRAND NEW PLUGS.....COULD POINTS AND CONDENSOR CAUSE A ROUGH IDLE AT OPERATING TEMPERATURE.

NOT SURE I HAVE RULED OUT THE CARB EITHER

Vacuum leak at intake gasket , or the hose to wiper motor?
Carb cleaner with a spray nozzle works to trace it down , but dangerous around the exhaust manifold. Oil works , but takes a long time to burn off.
Could be a wrong gasket in carb base to bowl ?
Tight valves will show up when hot.

If you have a ceramic filter it may be dirty. The old ones can be restricted.

I had a similar issue on my 49 C 262. Started and ran fine until it warmed up and got progressively worse. Traced to a tight valve with almost 0 clearance. The valve barely closed when cold and when it warmed up it wouldn't. Check your compression when cold and then warm. If it changes a lot that could be it.

lostmind..I've used the carb-cleaner trick with success..you can also just use a spray bottle of water..if there's a vacuum leak the water will make it sputter.
