can someone tell me the weight of a 55 308 w/hydromatic?

i am setting up the rear spring perches on my essex and want to know the weight of the 308 plus tranny to make sure i get the location right. any help will be apriciated. it's a later hudson straight axle and the springs are longer so i can't use stock location or mount. i want to see how springs will look when loaded. thanks again, stacy k

I will guess around 750-800 lbs including water and oil. But guesses are not what you want.

Just a suggestion for an accurate weight. Drive your pu to a recycling center and weigh the truck. Return to load up complete engine and trans, go back to recycling center and weigh the pu again. You will have the known weight you want. Then add weight of the oil and water that will be added to engine and trans.

It will be interesting to know what weight you come up with.
Pictures would be nice to see of you projects progress.

P.S. Since the trans supports 1/2 driveshaft weight, there is another consideration.

If this helps your direction I had a 'thicker' Main Leaf made for my '37 Terraplane straight axle when I installed a Hornet motor then re installed all the lower leafs. I use nylon Inserts in between each leaf at the ends to smoothen ride & eliminate squeaks....
In hindsight, I would add another leaf just below the main.

That kind of weight will send a Harbor Freight engine stand running and screaming.

thank you all for the info. looks like 1000 lbs will get it with rad, water oil and other stuff. what's funny is i don't know if the entire rest of the car weighs that much! the only pictures i have is on the thread titled "it was 30 miles away and i just couldn't resist". i have spent a ton of time converting the 30 hudson front axle over to hornet brakes and machining the bushings as the old ones were wore out.
