Hi folks. I'm the proud new owner of a 1957 Hudson Hornet Hollywood. Now my work begins. The first thing on the agenda is finding a windshield for this beast.Any ideas? Anyone know of a glass manufacturer that makes specialty orders or a wrecking yard full of non flying Hornets? Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.

Whiskey, Welcome to our family. First family rule--lots of photo's/We love photos... By the way, Hudson folks are a very friendly group and get a kick out of helping other Hudson lovers with their projects. I would suggest that you check out the Hudson Essex Terraplane Club at www.HETclub.org Fellow Hudson owners and activities are by far the best way to find the parts that you need to get up and running.

Is it possible that your 57 looks anywheres near this? I have been looking for this Monster for about 7 yrs now, and no leads...My brand new 57 Hollywood. It was purchased new in Texas, but you never know where they wind up. I only wished I had a serial#.
  • Great response. Thanks to all. There was a slip of the finger as my new addition is a 56 Holywood not a 57.It needs a lot of work but I needed another project any way. I have a few other cars but nothing quite this unique. I will post some pics tomorrow. Again thanks for the great welcome.

    Great looking car Paul!!!!!
  • I have a seemingly silly question for you folks. Is a 56 Hudson a positive or negative ground. I know a lot of vehicles were positive ground until 56 when they switched from 6 to 12 volts and switched polarity. It would help to know this before I try to fire it up.

Whiskey, as you may know, the Club website has downloadable (or viewable) technical literature including a 1955 shop manual and the 1956 and 57 supplements. Club members can register there for free, and non-members can get free "limited membership" there. (Though I don't know if the limited members have access to the literature.

Of course, one can also purchase real, paper shop manual reprints nowadays. Club members can buy them through the Club Store, and places like AutoLit.com sell the original ones.
  • Thanks Jon. I will grab one of those shop manuals. No puter in the shop and the manual is easier to set on the fender. I'm not into these I-phones and I-pads and such. Thanks Paul. It's not in bad shape. Not as sweet as that 57 of yours but maybe someday. There is a rust hole at the front of the drivers door but it looks like just the floor as yet. Once I fire it up I'll put it on the hoist for a better looky see.

Literature may be found at http://hetclub.org/burr/lithomepage.htm
This material is downloadable. In addition to the manuals available there are numerous bulletins in the Bulletins file.

Also check for rust in the left fender inner panel where the steering box is bolted in.

Congratulation on your new adventure. The car looks in good condition. Enjoy driving it for awhile before any major restoration. To many times a restoration takes to long, enthusiasm fades and sometimes it doesn't get completed. The joy of driving never happens.

I remember as a kid on vacation camping out with the front seat layed back to make into a bed. Dad bought air mattresses which made sleeping across seat cussions more comfortable. They doubled as floatation devices during a day on the lake.

Dad once saved 55 or 56 windshield in the garage rafters for over 30 yrs. When he sold the house the windshield was set aside during packing to move. As he was stepping backwards from the garage with a loaded box, we all heard the sound of a windshield shatter into a million pieces.
