Is the metal line that comes out of the fuel pump and goes to the long tube on the outside of the carbs, Is that a vacuum line it has a petcock on it . The otherline starts out as metal and then goes to rubber up to the wipers. This has to be a duel action pump right? Are new lines and fittings available? Thanks John

  • What petcock?
  • There is a valve just like the one at the bottom of the rad. only smaller, right before it goes into the long tube by the carbs. Thanks JOHN

Did the new return line with restrictor "help prevent vapor lock" or prevent vapor lock? Do you no longer have vapor lock because of the new line? And are you using or not using electric fuel pump? Sorry for the questions. I just want to make it clear in my mind what results to expect when I a new line is installed.

  • It prevents vapor lock. I had the same issue, but no more.

Lee, Sorry to but in, but I did the fuel return line as per the instructions, precisely as Walt stated in his instructions. It made hardly a difference and was a bit slow to fire over when restarted on a part warm engine. Although the latter might be the issue that caused my fuel starvation in the first place. My problem a few years ago was peculation in the carbs as the engine became hot( normal temp) in AZ. The fuel cooked off. After I insulated the fuel lines with Mylar, shifted the fuel line away from the exhaust manifold by 6-7 inches and added phenolic spacer gaskets under the carbs, and rebuilt the fuel pump with one less gasket spacer, problem solved. Also, I never run winter gas in the car after March. However, the feedback line is probably an advantage. The question remains what petcock?
  • I put a electric fuel pump and return line on my 54, it really helped with the vapor lock. I've got pictures if anyone wants to see them. It's interesting that someone put a petcock on the fuel line, maybe it's for bleeding hot gas and/or air off if you are experiencing vapor lock.

  • The petcock is right by the equalizer tube also should the fittings be tight, the vacuum tube you could move with your fingers. John
