OK, anyone looking to build/restore--fix up a Hudson Fire Truck. A local old car dealer has one that he wants to sell. It is a neat old truck that could be driven as is or made to look very nice... Think pre-1930. I'll try to get some data and photos if anyone needs one....

I'm not in the market but I would love to see one. Get some pics if you can.
  • Where is it at?
    I'm interested.

You might ask Rich Smithen, here in CA. He brought his to the San Mateo National and I think that he told me that he is about to add its twin to his collection. He is interested in Hudson Fire Trucks. I am not sure if he is on this forum.

I believe that is the fire truck that was a converted 1918 sedan with a water tank installed that belonged to late HET member, Smith. I had talked with his nephew several years ago and was planning on making trip to see it after spring thaw, bur never made it. This is a picture of it

Nope Dave, not it--wish it was.... I think we are talking about something around 1924/5 and has an engine with the SN: 453156 (there is some funny mark in front of the SN that looks like a lazy 0 with a line under it?) The truck is running and you can see from the photo that there is an aftermarket power take off. The owner wants to replace the wood floorboard, add a bench seat put on new back tires and rebuild the carb. The gas tank is in front of the car but reinstalls just behind the seat. But, this is a drivable (if you are brave) truck. The title will need to be obtained but this is an easy process in Utah. The owner is a dealer of antique cars and is part of a upscale restoration shop. With the work he wants to do he feels a good price is around $4,500. Might take less if it was sold before the work was done. His bottom mark is just above $3,000. you can call Jackie at 801 392-5171 for additional information.
  • Darn. just ruined my day. I shouldn't have looked at the pictures.
Its sort of a 24-25 hudson, kinda??
Wrong engine, wrong wheels, wrong hood... I should just stop.

    Thanks for posting Brownie
Dave S what more do you know about that 18 water truck?? was it Jack Smith's

Guys, I have no idea what it is--I was only guessing when I said 24/25 and that is why I posted the data that I did. The folks who have it think it is a 28 Hudson original fire truck. I do know that it is not that. I expect that it is a cut down something? Give me some feed back so I can tell these folks what they have.... Perhaps this is only a "parts" project. Does it have any value--if only for parts?

It may have a Hudson badge on it of the wrong decade but I don't see much other Hudson parts on it.

Serial numbers for 1923 varied by body style - only 400000 series was a 5-Pass. Coach s/n 411324 to 431165. 1924 serial numbers began at 500000 and rant to 562016.
    No other years come close.

  • I believe the sin# Brownie gives is the engine#, and that engine is not hudson.
    The car was a Late 24, or a 25. most likely a 25.
Any one know what the badge is from? i dont recall ever seeing one like it.

Badge came out in 1948, as I recall. I have a 1948 This Time It's Hudson poster with that emblem at the top.

A little more information that I found out for you. This was an active engine for Fort Collins, Colorado. The title that he got with the car identifies it as an International. It was built in 1938 by the members of the department.

The badge on that radiator shell is a medallion that was used on the senior cars of the 1955 model year. They had a Burgundy red background and were mounted on the "C" pillar of the sedans and Hollywoods. As far as I know, 1955 was the only year they were used.
  • So I guess its safe to say then the engine is International. Thanks for badge info 53jetman.
