52 Hudson Hornet offered to me...

Hi Guys, A friend of mine is downsizing his collection. He offered me his 52 HH. He noticed that I'm in for some years on my 54 project. He would like me to have a car to drive while doing work on the other. I saw the car mayby 15 years ago in a Museum and had my picture taken in front of it. Then, in 2005, that Museum closed and all the cars went for sale. As I was to buy it, I was offered a house for a good price so I went for the house, worked a lot on it and more than double its value. Now, that plus value could help me buy the car back ( bigger mortgage...). He had the motor rebuilt less than 1000 miles ago. Same for the trans. The interior is beautiful. Don't know if it is the right material tough...But it's very well done. I tought all 308 were gold. This one seems gray or blue I can't tell. Underneath looks superb. I have to go next week for a drive. He is having the sending unit changed and a sensor for temperature. I know you can X_Ray a stepdown easily. So, what do you think? I think he has an electric fuel pump now and that Pectronix distributor. So, from the pictures, what do you think?
Thanks again. Michel P.S. The price could be similar, or a little less than some I saw on E-Bay. But this one is almost in my backyard and could be driven home...

Looks great. Yes, the block is supposed to be gold. Interior does not have the leather-grain pattern . . . a few other small details. If you can get it for 25 or less (and there's no rot), you should go for it. Love the '52's!

    FYI
Run, dont walk and Buy that Hudson if you can afford it. If not, Share where its located and someone will buy it.....Dont worry about the block color... I can tell its a 308 Hornet, small pump which is good, and the electric pump aids starting after car sets awhile.... A positive is the Electronic Ign....(Only) Neg no Twin H, but they are available to add if so choose....Good Luck.

Thanks a lot. I could see the positive in it, but something said to me there were some non correct ones. Having my 53 as a parts car for my 54, I will look under these two to see all the differences that it can have with that 52. Originally, it had the Twin-H but this set up was installed on a 51 convertible. Next, I want absolutely to check the feeling I will have driving it.
This car needs to be a good driver. If I have a doubt and not sure, be certain I will have it available to others. Thanks again, I appreciate all comments and knew I could count on your sharp eyes! Will keep you informed. Michel

This car is very well done. As has been mentioned there is a lot that is not original on the car from the interior, engine, paint combinations including the hub caps. However, with that said, the car presents well. The paint and brightwork look great in the photos. If the car is rust free, drives smooth and under $15K it would be a no brainer--go for it! If any of these things are questionable I would ask some serious questions and then make sure that you can accept the things that have been mentioned above. For this car, the drivability would be the key in the decision. Looks like a car that I would love to have. Good luck in your decision...... Let us know how it goes.

NOS blocks shipped from the factory were grey (ala all those '55-'56 blocks AMC sold - remember buying a pallet of 4 of them, I think from Dave Bullock; had old crony Charlie Ackel bring them to Calif. from N. J. where Dave lived).

    Pete-
I'm pretty sure that block has been re-painted. The horns are the same color (instead of black). Besides, Michel said the motor has been gone through.

When I'll have a chance to see the car, I will note the engine's serial number. When he got the car from the Museum, he had problems with the engine. After inspection, the pistons were the wrong ones, so he decided to have it redone. The guy who did the interior, did a great job, but, knowing it would go in a Museum is probably why he did not installed the leather-grain pattern.

Michel a nice looking car, you need one to drive around in as we all are getting older and the projects seem to get behind as you no I was 11 years getting mine done and at years of age have to use every minite to enjoy it. But take a good look at it and the final decision will be yours keep us informed. as others have said some of the painting is not correct and no one other than hudnuts will notice that
    good luck
