i was wanting to use this steering box on my essex. it was sitting beside it when i got it and i think it may be the original one. it is missing some parts. i finally got it freed up. the shaft is bent, i may be able to straighten it. i think this is missing a bearing on the bottom side and the plate that coveres it. i was thinking about seeing if i can find a bearing as close as i can and make a plate for it to press against. the load seems to be adjusted with shims whick are there on the upper end under the collar i have loose. what do you guys think.
the second picture shows a better look at bottom and plate that is missing and missing bearing??? looks like i will have to drill a hole in the plate i make for shaft to pass thru.
