212 cu in main bearing cap torque
hello, i have looked through the hudson procedures manual and motors but i have not been able to find a torque value for the main bearing cap or big end bolts for my '35 terraplane with a 212 cu. in. 6 cyl. looking around the internet it seems 75 ft lbs. is in the ball park for the main bearing caps and 45-50 for the rod big ends. is that close? thank you. regards, tom

Problem with that is that 1942 motors used palnuts. '35 motors use castellated nuts with slit pins, and tightening to a specified pressure means that likely the holes won't align with the castellations. Solution is to use later type nuts and palnuts, or if you want to keep original, tighten to 35 lbs, then take up to next hole alignment (for con rods) and to 65 lbs for mains and tighten to next alignment. And don't use split pins in the main nuts, use wire twisted together in the centre. Personally, I have never used a torque wrench on these engines. Common sense prevails, you can feel when it is tight.0

And that's why he's the Doc Daugherty award winner! Congrats by the way. I just found out. Well deserved.0
