1933 Essex Terraplane Eight

Since it's looking nice and clean after being washed here are some images of it. This is the ex-Norway car, with twin sidemounts and luggage rack. The car has never had much use throughout its life according to a previous owner.
Any '33 car is very rare here in NZ so people are always interested to look at it at shows and meetings.

Looking good Denzel! I remember how well it ran and pulled up the hills when we went for a drive in Queenstown a few years ago.0
-
very handsome car; like the metal tire covers!0
-
Rare car even in the US. I know a club member with one though and seeing it in action I was amazed how it easily out-accelerated my Pacemaker and left it in the dust and that is a car almost 20 years newer.0

One can almost see Bonnie and Clyde in the front seat. Beautiful car.

Bonnie & Clod drove Frauds,
Dillinger had class ergo used T8s!0 -
Yeah, but I can still see Bonnie and Clyde running around in one like this.

thought you all might enjoy seeing this
an original factory invitation to come see the new '33 Terraplanes0 -
Thanks for posting, great looking car! I'm very anxious to get mine on the road.0

Genuine original reference cars are so very rare.
Please comment on the brand and overall diameter of the headlamp assemblies as they appear to be the export type.0 -
Regarding the headlamps, I didn't realize there was an export version. How did they differ from the domestic type? Dimensions of these ones are 10 & 7/16" OD and lens is 10", with the writing "Tiltray Headlamp Guide Made in USA" on the lens.
The car has period Lucas Trafficators fitted too which still work. You can see them each side of the A-pillar. The front bumper has two small tubular flagholders on each side so that a pair of flags can be flown - the car came with a pair of miniature Norwegian flags for this purpose.0 -
good to see the rare stuff down here
really mucks up the peoples mind, what do you mean its not a ford or chev lol

I no longer have a '33 ET8 to give you a measurement off the Detroit-supplied lamps but believe it was 1+ inch larger. Perhaps someone else can measure theirs.
Yes, all export cars to United Kingdom countries (and perhaps others) had their own headlamps due to US lighting laws forever being behind what the rest of the world would allow in up-to-date quality illumination.0 -
My ET8 lamps measure nearly identical, but are marked "Stabilite"0
-
Stabilite was the factory equip. here in U.S.; think they made have supplied the fender lights too.0

Here's a short video of the car in action taken by my son with his new GoPro.

Thanks - the rear view video was a second gear start, to about 50mph.
