My day is officially "made". Hubby made a miraculous discovery today. The missing fins for my hood ornament are no longer missing. They were wrapped up and securely taped up in the bottom of a small box (a box I thought I had gone thru) of misc parts found in the trunk of the Terraplane when I purchased it! Yippee! They are a bit pitted, granted, but they exist! I see that the attachment points are threaded, as the carrot appears to be. I am assuming one would screw them in to the point at which the other end would encounter the carrot then push on the rest of the way, correct?

Congratulations. I am still looking for that speedometer cable that I put somewhere that I would be sure to find it when I needed it. That was over 2 years ago. LOL

Don't see how they could have been threaded since there are (I believe) two mounting studs per fin. I patterned mine (which I carved from solid brass) on the original, pitted fins. And I sure don't recall their being threaded. Which is why I brazed studs made from welding rod, to the fins. Then drilled matching blind holes in the acrylic carrot and pushed the fins (with studs) into the holes. I probably shot some epoxy or something in there.

Anyway, that was about 1978. They haven't fallen off yet.

The '36 piece that hold the carrot is threaded in a couple of places!

@ Jon B there is a single drill at each attachment point on the carrot and a single corresponding pin on each fin (as I recall...). The fins are pitted as is the rest of the chrome so for the time being I plan to install same sans epoxy so that I can remove them when I come up with the cash to have all the chrome and bumpers done. There used to be a couple of chrome plating shops locally but not certain that they are still in business. I hope so as my preference would be to not take the chance of having my trim lost in the mail, we all know what a challenge it is to find these parts! On a totally different note, found a 100% original (only directionals added - even has a spare with orig cover with emblem on the rear) 1935 Plymouth for sale yesterday...he has my number... :-c
