I don't think John Soneff owned a car without PS. I heard he pretty much stopped restoring when he ran out of PS units. In other words, he put them in all of his step-downs, regardless of year.0

smart men, all..
I must say the steering effort on these Hudsons (at least on my '51) is at the limit of endurance. My wife can hardly drive ours. We own 13 vehicles, and the Hudson by far requres the most steering effort0 -
Again, check the front springs for sag. You should be able to get your fist between the lip of the front wheel well and the top of the tire tread, if not the springs have sagged. Replace front springs with NEW ones not used out of another car and rebuild/overhaul the front suspension. I've driven a stepdown that was low mileage and in top shape and they feel like they have power steering! Fix what's wrong with the car first and go from there, you may be pleasantly surprised.0
