Anyone know where I can find a double action fuel pump for an AMC 250 v8? It fits a 1956 Hornet Special with the AMC 250 v8. NOS wouldn't work with the new gas we have. It should have new materials that would withstand the new gas. Also fits 1956 Nash Special and Rambler to 1961. Will call Dave Kostansek tomorrow.

Should be the same pump for AMC 250, 287, and 327 V-8 engines, same engine family like 308, 262 and 232 Hudson 6's.

The 250, and 327 pump should be the same, but nobody has them.

  • About fuel pumps, I found a 6 volt electric fuel pump at CARQUEST for about 85 dollars. Does anyone know the downside to using their pumps?

I have used the O'Rielly's #E16088 (Carter #E8011) Carter Electric Rotary Vain fuel pumps for years on my Hudsons. They have to be mounted back near the fuel tank with a good filter between the tank and the pump - they totally replace the mechanical pump on the engine block. I also install another filter in the line just before the carbs for additional safety. Really work well, and will totally eliminate possible vapor lock. The one down side is that pump must be exercised at least every year, because the additives in our modern fuel will cause problems if left to set for two or three years before using the car. Of course, this also is a problem with the mechanical fuel pumps - we've got our government to thank for this problem! ! !

Thanks Paul. Called Dale Cooper and he said that he has the rebuilt pump with new internals. One last problem; The oil dipstick hits the crankshaft while the vehicle is running. Called Blaser and they told me that the '56 250 v8 dipstick in their parts book is different than the '57 327. They have '57's in stock but not '56.
Does this dipstick go straight to the oil pan without a sheath? The dipstick has a curve in it and is not straight. The dipstick for the Packard v8 engine one is straight. ( I know different manufacture)
  • Jetman, been off line for last couple of days. The electric pump I am looking at has the same number #E8011 as yours. Thanks for the help.
