54 amp light was flickering and staying on . Checked the output off the generator with a volt meter . Nothing coming out . Changed the regulator . Now no charge and no amp light . Generator was serviced 20000 miles ago. Any thoughts ? Ty

Most likely the brushes worn out. The dash light gets it's ground through the armature, so if the brush is not making contact the light will not come on with the ignition. Check that for starters.

    Ty will do
  • The 1954's had a 45 amp generator and a special voltage regulator. They must be matched. Walt.
