Are these Hudson lights?
Hello all,
These lights came from a Hudson garage but they don't look like Hudson to me. But then again I'm not the expert. The lenses are plastic and the bezel/body appears to be brass. If not Hudson, does anyone know what they could be for?
Thanks,
Jairo.

Jairo, They are not Hudson.0

Here is a side view...

They seem to be brass or bronze. Most automobile lights are made of white metal or pressed steel (or, nowadays, plastic!)0
-
These almost look like a custom job. Brass or bronze is unusual for production vehicles. How big are these?0
-
The pattern certainly looks like a stepdown, if those are solid brass they must be hand made from what it looks like to me.0
-
They're certainly not any Hudson I've ever seen.0

Right, measurements help. They are about 9 1/4" by 2".

Well, I don't know. Those are pretty big taillights.
A few observations:
1. The bulb housings (black part) looks like it was formed by hand, not automated (another argument for being custom).
2. Rarely did any OEM part from the golden age (i.e., 30's thru 50's) have a bulb housing that was so wide as compared to the bezel. The hole to mount these in would have to be nearly as large as to almost encroach on the edge of the bezel. This wouldn't allow for much gasket room and would be prone to leaks, leading to moisture inside of the car.
3. The double bevel on the edge of the bezel is very difficult (and not very practical) to make by hand. "Hand made" or one-off customs just wouldn't normally have this feature (see below).
4. There are no casting #'s or part #'s that I could see (granted I can't see all of the back of the bezels.
All of that leads me to believe that they are cutom taillights that were made from an existing part that was meant maybe for something else. But hey, that's just my professional opinion. Take it for what it's worth.
If you find out for certain, I would be interested in your findings.0 -
They look like copies of '41 Studebaker tail lamps but made up for custom application.0

Yes, I think you are correct. I'll look up the dimensions on the Studebaker lights.
Thank you!0
