Hudsons at Hershey!
From our H-E-T Calendar, a reminder:
If you're headed to this fall's gigantic Hershey, Pa. car show and flea market, which runs from October 9 through 12, don't miss the various Hudson-related activities at or near the event.
At the flea market itself, the Club's hospitality booth provides an H-E-T "home away from home" from Wednesday through Saturday. Here, Hudsonites can socialize with fellow enthusiasts while relaxing in easy chairs and enjoying coffee and doughnuts. There's a bulletin board for messages, and one can temporarily park those bulky flea market "finds" behind the counter, instead of lugging them around all day. Copies of the White Triangle News are given to prospective members, and membership applications and renewals are accepted. It all happens at the Red Field in space RNE 24-25, on the ''highway side'' of the Hersheypark Stadium (the older stadium' at the opposite end of the flea market from the new Giant Stadium).
Near Carlisle, about 30 miles west of Hershey, the Quality Inn offers rooms at a special discounted rate of $72.99 (for two people) plus tax. The rate is good for the evenings of Oct. 8 through 12. The Inn's address is 1255 Harrisburg Pike, Carlisle, PA 17013 and the telephone number is (717) 243-6000. Ask for the Hudson club discount. Motel rooms in and around Hershey are scarce because of the car show, and the Quality Inn's discounts are limited to 20 rooms, so reservations should be made immediately. The motel is on Route 11, one block west of its intersection with Interstate 81. The exit is 52 (going south) or 52B (going north).
Many Hudsonites stay at the motel and an H-E-T hospitality room, just off the motel’s front lobby, is open on Friday after 4:00 P.M. and on Saturday afternoon and evening. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Donations of snacks are gratefully accepted; contact Carl Wennberg or Rhonda Frey beforehand, at (301) 609-4816.
At 6:00 PM on Saturday evening, October 12, a dinner gathering for Hudson enthusiasts will take place in a private room at Hoss' Family Steak & Sea restaurant, 1151 Harrisburg Pike, a short distance west of the motel. Reservations are not required and each party will order "off the menu". Last year 42 Hudsonites attended.
On Sunday morning, Oct. 13, an all-Hudson flea market will take place in the Quality Inn's rear parking lot from 7:00 A.M. to noon. There is no charge to vendors and no pre-registration is necessary. Hudsonites are invited to bring their excess accumulations of Hudson parts to sell.
Volunteers are urgently needed to staff the Hershey booth on all four days of the car show, and Hudsons are needed for display there. Volunteers have the opportunity to meet Hudson enthusiasts from around the world and to recruit new members to the Club. Those who display their Hudsons at the booth can drive into the flea market in the morning and out at night, saving the $12 parking fee and avoiding a long walk to and from distant lots. Older Club members find this an excellent way to "do Hershey" without a lot of walking, and they can often hitch a ride to the booth from the Quality Inn and back, in one of the Hudson "display cars".

Jon,
I will be showing our 52 cv in Saturday show and it is available for by trailer Friday. Ken and I will help out for some of time at trailer Thursday afternoon or Friday
Dave0 -
Thank you, Dave! I think I have only one car signed up for Friday already, so let me put you down for that. And your help would be welcome on Thursday and / or Friday; I'll get in touch with you about exactly what time (so we can schedule people to just work "shifts" and not all day).0

Just kicking it up to the top! Hershey starts Wednesday and we could use a couple volunteers to staff the booth Wed. and Thurs.!0

ah, remember the "good ole days" when Harrah's would drive out a semi-tractor rig from Reno & an army of guys with walkie-talkies would comb the swap meet buying for the Collection followed by a dissertation from Doc Daugherty over a couple of drinks at the Sat. night HET banquet (I arranged for one-time HET Treasurer Elwyn Muzzey to buy the X-161 at one of those soirees, LOL).
"those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end - - -"0 -
Well, times change but some things stay the same. We still get together for a Saturday evening dinner in Carlisle (not so much a banquet, though). And there are "old faces" there, though sadly not including "Doc" and a number of other former H-E-T stalwarts. And we also have a Hudson flea market on Sunday (though the fleas are fewer, and somewhat skinnier than they were back in the 60's and 70's!).0

Jon, I can only come on Sat. this year and will have the C8 in for HPOF judging this year. I will try to make it over to the booth if I can however.0

How wet is it? How many vendors are open vs. not setting up?0
-

I remember a story from out of the past about a couple fellows from the Military Vehicles club showed up at Hershey with a WWII half-track. The story went that they had a ball hauling such as motor homes out of the mud with that thing. :-))

WELL FROM PAST TRIPS TO THE O'LL MUD PIT THINGS HAVE CHANGED OVER THE YEARS AS OF A FEW YEARS AGO ALL OF THE AACA CAR SHOW IS ON HARD TOP NO MORE DOWN IN THE MUD AND MOST ALL OF THE FLEA MARKET IS ON HARD TOP ALSO SO IT MAY BE WET BUT NOT AS BAD AS YEARS PAST AS THE MUD GOES0
-
. . . so, some good places to walk, but still mostly mud? Is that about right?0
-
Despite the rain, 41 Hudsonites attended our Saturday night dinner at Hoss' restaurant near Carlisle. Last year 42 attended, so the bad weather didn't cause much of a drop!0
