308 Engine Question
The engine block in my 53 Hornet Twin-H is gold in color but the head is silver. There is a number on the engine side of "304539 CWC 2". Is this a casting number? Where would I locate the serial number? The head is marked "POWERDOME CWC 308121". Might the head be from a previous year or model thus having a different color? Of course I am assuming these parts have not been repainted over the years. Thanks, Joe

The VIN (& engine number IF MATCHING) is located on the passenger side of the block at the front corner. It is scribed so that it can be read across fender to fender, so to speak. It will be a number with 7C...... if it is a 53 Hornet engine and if original matching # will be the same as the VIN plate riveted to the passenger door post( A pillar) above the door light button. The head is probably aluminum and was not painted to match the block. Cast iron head will attract a magnet, aluminum won't.0

Head would have been originally gold, like the rest of the engine.0

Engine number will not have the model number (7C) in it - the serial number on the right front door post will have the model number. In any event if the engine is original to the car the numbers will match.
