Where can I get reproduction Rockers for a Step-down Sedan? I contacted Stu and all he has left is for coupes.
Also I am in need for front floor boards, rear passenger floor boards and the whole truck floor.
Want to order ASAP.

thanks!

Christopher, you might be better off locating a good parts car that has most of this in good shape. I just purchased a wasp sedan for this very reason, going to use it for the build as the core is very solid.

The floor pans are available from a couple of sources......just depends on how much you want to spend. Ebay seller has some that will need a little muscle to install. Also Bent Metal on the forum makes really nice ones (from what I have heard). Also the Spelic Brothers in Colorado have them advertised in the WTN. Glen Johnson had a NOS sedan rocker for sale on Ebay. I don't remember what side........for around $225

Would I be better off buying some coupe rockers to repair my sedan ones?
I should PM Bent Mental about making the floor plans, cost is not that much of an issue since I am doing everything minus the interior myself.
Thanks Kerry, Paul, and Don for advice :)

Bill & Charlies Antique Auto purchased the Amman Inventory. I'm sure there are many, many sedan rockers in that bunch, as I along sold Ken for 11 sedan rockers back in 2003 - just shortly before he sold out.

I got a rocker panel from a Pacemaker 2 door sedan. Should be same as 4 door. But not sure that is work on the long wheelbase cars. Private message me if maybe I can help you.
  • Two door & four door are quite different .

Ken - I also asked the Falks in Nebraska. But I need to contact Jason Fisher and Hudzilla.
Does Spelic Bro's also make truck floor pans?

Rick - from what i heard from C2C Fab, their panels are not worth the cost due to their imperfections.

I agree with Kdancy. It's usually cheaper (when you need quite a few parts), to find a good donor car. You not only get the parts you are looking for, but extras of other stuff, as well. With a sedan, the prospect is a very doable task.

I wasn't going to comment on the floors, but here goes anyway. I see Mr. Spelic commented above. ...

I talked to him, I assume it was Mr. Spelic, at the San Mateo Nationals. He had a few floor pans out. Said he was making them. The floors that were on display were some of Ken Ammen's old floors. So I haven't seen any of Mr. Spelic's parts yet. He did however tell me they will be just like those on display. Nice guy, and the price is really good. I thought.

    ...

I think I've told this story before. I while back a guy wanted me to install floors in his step down. He brought me the ebay floor pans. They were so bad that I told him I wouldn't use them. So I talked to Ken Ammen about getting me some of his floor pans. He was no longer making them and only had one side left. Rights and no lefts, or something like that. I told him that I was considering making the floors, as long as he was not going to want to make more in the future. No point in two of us making the floors. His were nice, and the market for selling these things is small. We agreed. For him to restart production would mean something like five grand for the kirksite dies that the metal shop "lost", so he said. He was not interested in doing that. He also said that he would in the future refer people who called him for the floors, to me. Which he did.

So now I've made probably a dozen sets. All by hand. If you think I'm making a bunch of money making these things, your wrong. It's more of a fun thing I do for other club members, or just Hudson guys who appreciate the effort. Like some other Hudson guys I know who do similar things. Who I won't name here, but there are several who spend a lot of time for little money, just to provide another piece of the puzzle in a build. Yeah, I get paid, but my time would be more profitable if spent else where. And that's fine.

Alright, so now what? Bottom line, in my opinion.

    1. The ebay floors. Not worth it at half the price. Also notice they price their floors per side, not per set. I see guys saying how much money you save buying these things. ...I don't think so. The ones I had in my hand were junk. Looked like a junior high school shop project.

    2. The Spelic floors. Assuming they turn out exactly like the Ken Ammen floors. You can't go wrong. Ken's were made of good metal, not aluminized thin tin like the ebay ones. The shape was mostly right, everything was really close to factory. Nice floor pans for $275 a set. As priced in the WTN.

    3. My floors. When I talked to Mr. Ammen way back when, we also discussed some of the floor details. Details he was not able to duplicate due to his production method. Things like the trans mounting clips being different, model year and wheel base differences in the floors, adding all four ribs reguardless of the car it was going in. The drain holes, or lack of drain the louvered drain plug. As well as him deciding to reverse the outer flange to make the floors easier for a do-it-yourselfer to install. He did those things so he could appeal to everyone at a great price with a great product. Which he did very well. ...Because I'm making the floors by hand, it takes me a week or two to get around to it. But you can get a more accurate to your car floor pan. Or even have something custom to your needs. My price, $400 a set. A little more if you start adding stuff.

Bottom line. It's up to you. If you use the ebay ones, I wouldn't brag about it. If you want something custom, or as close to original as possible pick mine. If you want a good quality floor for a good price pick the Spelic floors. ...Now don't let me down Mr. Spelic, your floors need to be as good as Mr. Ammen's were.

Absolutely cannot go wrong with bentmetal's floorpans, or anything else he makes. I have a set of floor pans made by him, to my specs. Doesn't get any better. Exactly like the originals, right down to the proper gauge metal.

@Bent metal - how much would the rear truck floor cost if you repro'd it?
Oh also, Do the Spelic floors and yours come in primer?

Kens Floor Pans were a Perfect Fit in my 49 back in '05- I do believe I paid around 275+shipping. I may have even gotten the last full set (both sides)

I absolutely wouldn't hesitate to spend 400.00 on BentMetals floorpans, his work is top-notch (really building them by hand...@400 how are you making any $$ :) )

    Anyone else is a crud-shoot - I haven't seen them...

I suppose the ebay ones are better than a license plate/road sign (or nothing) and you're not concerned with looks.
  • Wow Bent Metal and the late Ken Amman..... this is why I am in the HET Club. Class acts ...
I could not have said it better. Ken Amman helped more Hudson members over the years and he did it mostly to help. Yes, he needed to sell parts but he wanted his customers to get the parts and get another Hudson on the road.

Bent metal has followed in Ken's foot steps, he does it to help the members get their cars back on the road...not for the money alone. The Ebay product speaks for it's self and it can only help guys like bent metal and Spelic Bros. My family has been into Hudson since 1963 and I do not do this for the money... it's for the marque and the club members.
All the easy restorations are done...the hard rusty ones are being worked on now.Our club needs more quality suppliers not fewer. There is plenty of room for quality people that do what they say they are going to do. Quality sells it self and word spreads fast. Thanks Bent Metal for your service. And thanks to Ken and Kay Amman, I tip my hat.

My floor pans are Ken Amman's floor pans....they are one in the same. They are high quality...no need to cut and paste, proven fit and finish. If you came by our booth in San Mateo you saw for yourself. I guarantee our floor pans and if buy them and you are not happy send them back and I will refund your money.

We will be at some regional shows but for sure at the Nationals in Indiana. Spelic Bros is also in the WTN with photos and we continue to sell the "Amman-Spelic Bros" floor pans thanks for your support. We at this time make only the 1948- 1954 Hudson Front Floor pans- with plans for more items if possible at a later date. Please continue to support all your Hudson suppliers as we all work hard and take on risk to support the hobby. We will be adding more photos onto the HET Club website soon. Thanks Again Spelic Bros.
