In the South Pacific during WWII some genius put 8 50 cals in the nose of B-25's - 4 in the nose and 2 on each side in blister paks back by the pilot. Those things were murder on just about anything up to and including Japanese destroyers - and a few even went after a cruiser or two. That's a lot of lead coming from one direction. There were a couple cases where Japanese planes got in the way of those guns - sort of like running a piece of paper thru a paper shredder.
