I have this ;47 Hudson that someone put a small block chevy motor and auto trans in but never finished. I would like to put it back to all Hudson except a 12 volt conversion. I have a 232 engine but would prefer a 262. But with the 232 I need an exhaust/intake manifold and all linkage from acelerator to carb. I have a couple transmissions that I can use. However, I will also need all the shift linkage and clutch linkage to change back. Good idea? or should I try to finish what aomeone started and did not finish? Thanks for any input. If it were mine, I would consider how close it is to driving. If they barely got started with the conversion, pulling it out and collecting the Hudson parts might get you going more quickly. If the SBC drivetrain is almost ready, I'd be temped to finish it and drive it while collecting the Hudson drivetrain. I had my 47 truck with the SBC, and I enjoyed driving it but would have liked it better with a 308 under the hood :) the Hudson parts should be pretty cheap and plentiful if your not in a hurry.

I agree with faustmb. The quickest and economical way to get another Hudson on the road is the way I would go. Perhaps pick up a 'Donor' Hudson to convert back original some day.
If decide on using the Chevy ensure the rear End was updated to an automatic Ratio around 3.00

Have you considered restoring to original with a 212 motor?

I need to keep up with freeway speeds and the splasher just makes a bit to much noise for me at 60.
  • Put overdrive in it ,my 1947 loafs along at 55 and faster is no problem and its a 212.
