I wish that I would have known. That is kinda like what my 54 had on it. I wish the radio would have worked so I could see if the antenna did as well?0

I believe its the ultra rare optional telescoping solar cooker that Hudson marketed to the salesman of the time that worked and sometimes lived out of his trunk. If you didn't mind cooking breakfast close to mid day when the sun what the hottest, you could cook pan cakes, eggs and such on it. Some collectors would buy that car just to get that rare item. It's the only one i've seen outside an old catalogue. I read somewhere that Hudson discontinued the option after numerous complaints of poor radio reception with it. There is no truth to the rumor that it's a NASCAR spoiler developed by Smokey Yunick to add down force at speeds above 100 MPH.0

Its a remote control . Gets you home safely when you were out way to late.0

Could be the original Star Trek prototype.0

Might be to provide aerodynamic down pressure on the car during high speed runs. Has much more "cool" factor than the usual coat hanger mod.
