308 CAST IRON H/C HEAD

I,AM WONDERING HOW LONG THE CAST IRON HIGH COMPRESSION HEAD WAS IN PRODUCTION. AND HOW RARE IT IS

    My '53 Hornet has a cast iron head "Super Power Dome, Use Premium fuel" also.

    If memory serves, there were restrictions on the use of aluminum during the Korean war, so Hudson brought out the H-145 iron high comp head to use on the 308's in '51. I don't know when they went back to the Alcoa heads but I would guess it was sometime in '53 after the war ended. We have one of those H-145 heads on our Hornet. However our old '51 Commodore 8 did have an aluminum head so I guess Hudson was able to use aluminum heads on some models during that time. Hope this helps.
