Dear Trevor,

Thank you for contacting eBay Customer Service. My name is Carl and I am happy to assist you. I have read your message and understand you are trying to view the eBay Motors site and that you are unable to view listings. I appreciate you taking the time to contact us so I can explain how our Motors Program works.

Trevor, eBay Motors is a great program that allows our members to buy and sell vehicles. However, the program is limited to our members in the United States and Canada only, at this time. The costs of shipping a vehicle internationally are prohibitive, and could cost more than the vehicle. Additionally, most vehicles are not shipped, the buyer picks the car up, or the seller delivers it to them. So you won't be able to purchase a vehicle on eBay at this time, but we truly appreciate your interest.

Dinko, listings in our Motors section are now limited to members in the United States. This is because the vendor that offers our Vehicle Protection Program is no longer able to guarantee vehicles shipped internationally. We take the protection of our members seriously, and we don't ever want you to be in a position where you have a problem with a vehicle purchase and have no protection. For this reason, we have restricted these listings and, going forward, you will not be able to view them.

I hope this helps to clarify this policy change for you. This is strictly for your protection, and to keep you from having problems with these purchases. When we make a change in our site, we always consider the best interests of our members first and foremost. Naturally, we want our members to have the best experiences possible on our site, as our success depends on you. We will never take any action without thoroughly researching all the options available first.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact us. We do genuinely appreciate your business and we hope to continue having a long relationship with you. I know you've been with us 10 years in December. We value your loyalty and we are always here to support

For more information concerning VPP, here is a great link: http://pages.ebay.com/ebaymotors/buy/purchase-protection/index.html

As you know, our sellers offer literally thousands of items for sale on eBay, so we encourage you to browse the listings on eBay. I am confident you will find many items you wish to purchase and are available to you in New Zealand. We have customized our site so your search results are automatically filtered so you won't search for items that can be shipped to you, it is already done for you! We work hard to make eBay as user-friendly as possible, and we hope you'll enjoy using the site.

Please remember, all your purchases on eBay and protected by our Buyer Protection program unless the listing states otherwise. As long as you see the Buyer Protection logo in the listing, you can relax knowing we are able to fully support you in that purchase. When you have a few minutes, please review the details of the Buyer Protection program so you will always be protected, by clicking below:

Again, thank you for contacting us. We look forward to your first purchase and I know you'll be an asset to our online community.

We wish you the best!

Sincerely,

Iris B.

This is the response I got from the Staff at Ebay after I made a complaint. Its is all for our own good and they are only doing it to keep us safe. They must think we are all as stupid as them and need looking after.
you may have all picked up that I am fuming

Yes Dave I picked that up just shows how stupid the folks are at Ebay perhaps they should have researched my history a little more. The war of words is continuing.

Just goes to show what a bunch of mongrels are now running Ebay. Do they really think it will stop people making purchases fortunately the car enthusiast community continues to bring interesting cars to the attention of this forum.

Good news Ebay asked me to do a survey to see if I was satisfied with their customer support, as if they give a damn

Carl should consider running for a public office - his BS about e-bay would make a senator or congressman proud. It says nothing.

Trevor, was the person asking the questions from Manila or the US?

Hmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good point. I have not had a response to my survey answers yet but I am probably spending too much time on something I cant fix. It will need a lot of people to complain before anything is done. I guess we will just have to go back to the way it was before Ebay was around but I guess that's progress.

The guy asking the questions was probably "just doing his job" as he was told. The folk making the (stupid?) decisions are the higher ups ( the ones we can't get to!!)

I can still look for cars on US ebay ie ebay.com from Australia.

I wonder why they are picking on the Kiwis.

Yep I agree with what has been said in fact Ebay in its latest correspondence has suggested that I create a false account/address. My point is why should I. I have been a customer of Ebay for 10 years and during that time I have had perfect feedback which builds trust with those you are dealing with. Its makes transactions easier it irks me that I will have to start again.

Does ebay NZ no longer exist Trevor, have they given up? When I go to ebay.co.nz I get diverted to ebay.com, ie US ebay.

For the bemused US people reading this thread, NZ has never embraced ebay, they have their own homegrown auction site, trademe.co.nz. Also its fully accessible from Oz and presumably elsewhere in the world.

Bob, Your link bought up 6000+ auctions. I briefly looked at 1,000 - plenty of parts but NO cars!!

Trevor, when I had a USA address (son or daughter) linked to my eBay name, I could see cars. My eBay records did not change when all my kids left the US & so I no longer had a US address but my ability to see cars did change!!

Hi Bob The link you sent allows me to look at parts only. I have attached Ebays latest letter to me suggesting I set up a false account with a US address. And that they are doing it for my own good. I'm probably wasting my time perhaps its time to move to some other searches leaving out Ebay. Its pretty obvious that the people at Ebay have no will to fix this probably just kids with no interest in vehicles.

  • Have had the same problem here in NZ and have just received a reply from Ebay with a solution that works !

    Hello Simon,
Thank you for getting back to eBay Customer Service team. My name is Honey and I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble finding motors and vehicles that you used to be able to search for. I realize it can be upsetting when you are no longer able to see the items you want to search for.
Simon, recently changes have been made to automatically filter your results to show only items that will ship to you. These filters were created in response to information we receive from international customs authorities, and are based on restrictions set by your local customs authority in New Zealand. We cannot override or remove these filters, as they are required by international trade restrictions. This exclusion is not an error, it is the site working as it is designed to do .Now despite these, I still have a good news for you!

There is still a way to search for motors/vehicles and I will be happy to tell you about it. Here’s how:
    1. Search for a vehicle by typing in the description in the search box on the top of eBay pages (such as 1969 mustang). Note: If the “Include description” checkbox underneath the blue Search button is not checked, make sure that you click that before continuing.
    2. After searching for the vehicle, change the “Sort:” (Default is set to Best Match) to “Price + Shipping: Highest First.”
    3. You will now see a “your location” blue hypertext line created underneath the “Sort:” and “View” for you to change the location in which you want to search for.
    4. Click on the blue hyper-text location (Default will be your location) and this will trigger a drop down menu.
    5. A drop-down menu will be given allowing you to select another location. Clicking “go” will show items that are shippable to the location that you entered (such as the US).
Once you’ve followed these steps, you will see that the results are there and you will be able to refine the results as necessary.
New Zealand, I apologize for the extra steps. Also, you would want to make sure to contact the seller before bidding on or buying any motors/vehicle to discuss shipping or pickup options. I am including a link to learn more about contacting the seller: http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/questions/contact-seller.html
I appreciate you taking the time to write in today about this issue and I am glad that I had the opportunity to resolve it for you. Have a great day and I wish you the best with all of your eBay transactions.
    Thank You,
    Honey S

    Simon & Trevor,
Look at registering with the NZ Post "You shop" service (http://www.nzpost.co.nz/tools/youshop)
This gives you an American address who will on-forward parcels to your NZ address. The costs seem OK but I have yet to try. It is set up to achieve exactly what we need & is a work around for those sellers who can't be bothered sending outside of the US.

I am now using Mainfreights address in California and that seems to be working just fine.
I contacted them first and they were happy for me to do so.

OK having just said that.. I am in the process of resurrecting what was left of a wrecked 49 two door sedan. It's gonna be a mess of parts resembling a Hudson.. Some day someone will look at it and ask "What thehell wuz he thinking". But it will be on the road and not in a melting pot in China.
