Any tips on how to clean a Skinner Purifier fuel filter's ceramic element? Mine seems to have a coating of rust grains and varnish.

The Carter glass bowl ceramic filters had two grades. I believe the white element was rated at 40 microns. The blue element was significantly greater -- I don't recall / can't find the rating but it seems like it was 100. And those were introduced right after World War II.
What I can quickly find on the internet seems to indicate today's parts house in-line filters are 10 micron, some less, some more.
If there is a comparatitve chart on the internet, I'd like to be linked to it. Thanks0
