Thinking about shipping my HydraMatic to be rebuilt. What does it weigh?

    Thanks Ken.
It feels like it's bolted to the floor!
  • A lot of them have a threaded hole on top you can use to hoist the unit. Makes it simpler to load or move around.

Wow.. Thanks Ken.. My memory is slipping.. Now I remember! I had Mac's 54 Hollywood here with a trashed HD. I hauled it up to Henni at Greenville transmissions in Greenville SC. I used one of those platforms that plug into a trailer hitch receiver. I think it was rated at 400# so I didn't want to have it break!. I had to throw the scales away since it wouldn't zero any more. I used to have tall transmission jack for use with a lift.. Last year I sold it, because I figured I shouldn't be doing that stuff anymore.. Yea riiiight.. This time I used a roll around work table and positioned it under the car and by manipulating the lift was able to get the tranny on the table. I'll borrow an jack to put it back in!
Checking the internet, it seems I will have to pay about $200 +- to ship it to SC. That is a lot less than the fuel in the motorhome.
The last time I picked up the HD from Henni, (in 2010 ?) I used our 2001 Lincoln Continental. Just put it in the trunk along with a rebuilt Packard Ultramatic. Thank goodness for auto leveling..

What I have found about the threaded hole in the top of the transmission is... The early single range I have that was in a 51 Hornet has the threaded hole. The two 54 dual range trannys I have worked with, Do Not. Cost cutting?
