There was a special tool, but I don't know of anyone who has one. I use a bolt with the head ground round so it will fit through the guide hole, and a brass nut under the head of it, similarly profiled to the correct outside diameter. Drop the bolt into the guide and using a 5 lb hammer drive the guide downwards. Use the intertia of the hammer weight to do the work, don;t bash the living tripe out of it. The brass nut stops the guide from shattering (more for when installing the new guides). If you are otherwise inclined you can make up a puller out of threaded stud, but you still have to drive the guides downwards to install.0

Somehow, I pulled my old ones out and pulled the new ones in with (stainless) threaded rod and appropriate washers and long connector nuts in a 308 and a 254.

I just got started and have a problem. I ordered a engine rebuild kit from dale cooper. The Exhust valves have a thicker head on them ,then the ones I removed. When I set them in the block ,they stick up about an eighth of an inch. The ones I removed from my engine ,Exhust and intake, were thin and look identical. Do I have the right valves,or has the engine been worked on in the past. How will I solve this problem. I appreciate any ideas on what to do next0
