Saw this this morning. Nice company for the Hornet!

Honestly I have always thought the sedans were better looking than the coupes. I think they were designed as sedans first and the 2drs were an afterthought.

Hagerty antique auto insurance was the originator of this article. Got the original via email several days back. They provide all my classic car insurance.

Through the end of the Hudson era, the stylists had to make their best work be the largest selling body styles: sedans (including the 2 door sedan). The coupes and convertibles were secondary because they sold far less volume. The well-known Hudson plaster styling models in 1:8 scale are 4door sedans on one side and 2 door sedans on the other side.

What is a Hudson plaster styling model worth? Were there many made? I had one that was a Hollywood model I gave to a friend Jairo Medina, he is restoring his 52 Hollywood. I sold a coupe model at National meet in San Mateo. None of the guys seemed interested. The last day of the meet a woman walked up and bought it. I still have a sedan in the box because of my 52 stepdown.

Were there any made of the PU's?

  • I would say there was originally more than one for every style in a given year. That is what was used to make proposals to management for new cars.
If the big shots liked it there would be a full size copy made in clay. All the models would be of little value after production is underway .My guess is they would have been tossed out if no one grabbed them up .
Should be quite valueable at this point in time.

    Lee , I had a reproduction plaster model , 1942 , I sold for $140 about 8 years ago.
It was made off an original.

Well, I think the happy-faced 48-49 sedans, like my Commadore were cooler than the grouchy-faced Hornets.

The grills on the '48 - '50 and the '54 are all more appealing to me than the '51 to '53, as you note they just seem grouchy or sad. However, not saying the '51 to '53 are bad looking cars, just a personal grill preference.
