1942 Commodore 8 Dash Emblem

I've seen the dash emblem for 46-47 but have given up ever finding one for 1942 Commodore 8 specific. Anyone have any suggestions on who to go to to make a new one? The plastic bezel can be remolded but I haven't found anyone yet who can recreate the COMMODORE 8 label that goes inside it. As you can see in the pics I don't have much and what is left is very brittle. I know there are folks who can scan even a piece of original graphics and using computer graphics, recreate the missing portions. I've called a dozen photo restoration places with no luck. I'm going to talk to Emblemmagic, maybe they know someone who can do the label portion. Has anyone here had anything like this done?
Thanks
Rick

Post some photos after emblemmagic gets finished with it. Should not be that hard to photoshop.

No, it's a thin plastic material. The white strip behind it is tape holding all the pieces together. When I took it apart just these pieces where still there and I had to catch them and very gently piece them together like a jigsaw puzzle on the tape.
  • The lettering is painted onto the back side, which has a sort-of cuspated surface to it, giving the fine, wavy effect as viewed from the face. I can't imagine anyone being able to duplicate that backside surface texture without it becoming a very expensive operation, but what the heck do I know?
The lettering and "8" are painted on first with the final background paint covering all of it. The "Commodore" (or Commadoor as we usually see it) lettering is done in a 3D effect (not to be confused with a Jet Liner effect) and would take some real talent to duplicate. If you find someone who can do it, I'd like to have mine re-done as well.
I'll attempt to get some reasonably detailed photos of it for you later today.

  • OK.....let's see if this is of any help.......

634 & 7)) viewed from the front face, note the shadow effect behind the lettering.
    636) Note no shadowing on the "8".
    638) the whole enchilada.
    641) from the back, textured side.
    643) Cover plate w/ scratches but no cracks!

I hope this is of some assistance.
