This is a picture of the big dial thermometer in my car port this morning. This was 8am - it's is now 11am and we are having a heat wave - it's up to 12 degrees!!!!!!!!!!!
Believe me when I say there are a lot of extremely unhappy brass monkeys running around the neighborhood!!!!!!!! PS - did you know the term "brass monkeys" supposedly came from a term used in British fighting ships back in the days of sail when the cannonballs that were stacked beside the guns in a triangular framework, called a monkey and was made of brass, that held the cannon balls in place against the rolling and pitching of the ship. When it got cold the brass would contract the balls could come loose and fall out of the frame.
All this has absolutely nothing to do with Hudsons - unless Henry Hudson commanded a British fighting ship back in the days of the sailing Navy's. It is presented because, at the moment I don't feel like scanning any of the stuff I have to do and I'm bored to death!!!! Thought maybe a little history lesson would give people something to think about.
(The other side of the coin is I discovered just how easy it is to post pictures on this forum!!!! Calling Dr. Aaron - take note and see if you can come up with something as easy as this forum is).
The up side is that it's supposed to be back in the 60's the end of the week.

Alex-
Feel blessed, my friend. My brother told me it was -16F this morning in central IN. No, that's not a typo, either!0 -
Alex,
Try -25 this morning without windchill. Wind up to 30mph plus. Should reach a high of -15 today and go back in the deep freeze tonight in Minnesota. My poor little Ford ranger puked motor oil on the driveway when it started up then no leak to be seen after. Tonight I will be crawling around on icebox concrete to try and figure out what happened. My Hudson is in cold storage (literally)! A touch unpleasant for all of us to say the least.

It's -15F, the predicted high (also, not factoring in the wind chill which I don't want to even think about) here in the Chicago area. Tomorrow it's going to reach a balmy +4F.
I go to work later on today at the Soo Line (Canadian Pacific Railway) railroad yard at Bensenville, IL. Thankfully, I'm a locomotive engineer (that's a train driver for those of you beyond N. America) and I'll be relatively comfortable versus the conductor/switchmen (and women) on the ground directing the movement of freight cars.
