Can't find any of those part numbers in the '48-'54 master parts book. I'm guessing these are casting numbers. For sure, 5525009 would be after production was transferred to Kenosha
  • Are you certain that the # is a 304658? Sometimes they're a bit difficult to read. I have three 308 cranks here and they all have 304668 on them and I can see where the 6 could be mistaken for a 5.

    Jetman & Frank,
Thank You for looking up the Numbers. Yes, the 5 is obscured and could be a 6..... The 552509 is a '55 308 BUT I think the 306011 is a 262 crank
  • I also have a 262 crank but the number on that particular one is quite different. I know it came from a narrow block 262 but can't be certain what year 'cause it had a s/n matching the '51 S-6 it was in. A bit of a mystery 'cause that doesn't quite make sense. To be a narrow block it would have to be a 481-2, 491-2, or a 501-2 s/n, whereas the # on it is for the '51. Who knows.....

Measure from a main journal centerline to a rod throw centerline (just "eyeball it" with a tape) and you'll get a close idea of the stroke. It could be a 232, which is obviously much shorter @ 1-15/16" instead of 2-3/16" (262) or 2-1/4" (308).
The 232 crank is quite recognizable since the distributor shaft relief on the center counterweight is almost non-existent as compared to the 262 or 308.

This was a great old thread for identifying cranks but I believe 5525009 is a 1955-56 308
